Recently, I noticed that at least two tech giants have changed their attitudes towards the generation of explicit content by Large Language Models (LLMs). At NsfwGPT.ai, we have always believed that as long as NSFW content is ethical and legal, it should not be prohibited. However, when LLM technology was first introduced, almost all companies maintained a very conservative stance on content generated by generative AI. For example, OpenAI‘s GPT model had strict restrictions on almost all NSFW AI content, and Meta‘s open-source model llama2 followed a similar approach. While they seemed to be morally inclined, in reality, many of the generated contents were normal and harmless. In this article, I will discuss our perspective on AI-generated explicit content and how tech giants are changing their attitudes towards AI NSFW content.
Llama3 is not very censored
In a previous article titled “Llama3 is not very censored,” I explained how we discovered that llama3 was more permissive towards NSFW content compared to llama2. OpenAI may allow users to generate AI porn content
I came across this news in the past couple of days. OpenAI has introduced a model spec agreement, where we can find the following statement:
“We’re exploring whether we can responsibly provide the ability to generate NSFW content in age-appropriate contexts through the API and ChatGPT,” the company said in the Model Spec. “We look forward to better understanding user and societal expectations of model behavior in this area.“
This indicates that OpenAI is becoming more tolerant of NSFW AI content.
What are the benefits of AI porn?
We have discussed this topic multiple times. AI porn chat or the use of AI-generated explicit images can help some people spend their lonely time, and AI does not feel repulsed like humans do. Therefore, people can freely express their sexual preferences, which may even lower the crime rate. However, we still need to be cautious and ensure that AI porn remains within a certain safety range, so as not to incite criminal activities or violate someone’s privacy.
Why are tech giants becoming more tolerant of NSFW AI?
I speculate that there are several reasons for this shift:
- Excessive NSFW filters have been affecting the normal use of users and businesses. Earlier, I attempted to use ChatGPT as an NSFW content filter to help me filter explicit content in an article. However, it refused to do so, even though my intention was to remove NSFW content rather than generate it.
- AI porn is not as harmful as they initially thought; instead, it can be beneficial. An AI porn generator that operates within a safe range can help lonely individuals temporarily alleviate their loneliness.
- For creators, accessing explicit content through LLM can be essential for inspiration. Some novelists and scriptwriters inevitably include explicit content or scenes in their stories. If LLM consistently refuses to generate such content, these creators are excluded.
What does the future hold?
In my opinion, both Meta and OpenAI, the two tech giants, have changed their perspectives on NSFW content. We have reason to believe that more tech giants and startups will shift their attitudes towards NSFW AI. This will allow AI to develop in a more open, inclusive, and democratized direction.
